DESIGN THINKING WORKSHOP
UEH & SCH (SOON CHUN HYANG)
On the 4th and 5th of November 2017, at the Vissai Hotel in Hochiminh City (HCMC), Soon-Chun-Hyang University (SCH), Korea and School of Business Information Technology (BIT) at University of Economics HCMC (UEH) co-organized a workshop on Design Thinking. Students from SCH, BIT and School of International Business & Marketing at UEH were working together on a very hot issue of HCMC, which is “traffic jam”.
On the first day, students were introduced to Design Thinking, a modern approach for problem solving, by Professor Sun Joo Ryu of SCH. In the afternoon of the same day, four groups of Vietnamese-Korean students traveled around HCMC by bus, taxi, and walking, through central roads such as Dien Bien Phu, Cong Hoa, Hoang Van Thu and Nguyen Dinh Chieu. Traffic data were collected, analyzed and documented for later use in their research. The trip was also a chance for Korean students to experience the transportation mode in Vietnam.
The second day began with the presentation of the survey results of each group, followed by the guidance of SCH professors. Group then conducted discussion and assessment of “HCMC traffic jam”, proposing solutions on that basis. It can be said that the exchange activities, research of each group was going smoothly thanks to the perfect collaborations of group members, making group final solution the contributions of them all, which were reported to the workshop committee consisting professors from both SCH and UEH.
Only a short period of time approached the problem, but the research groups put forward a series of innovative ideas, breakthrough application of advanced technology, making surprised the members of the workshop committee.
The program closed with indescribable feeling in each student as well as UEH and SCH professors; hugs, shake hands like a goodbye. The workshop ended successfully and left unforgettable marks in every participant.
